Who We Are

Our Mission

Watersman was built on a simple belief: every surfer in America deserves an accurate, honest surf report — not just the ones who happen to live near a camera in California or Hawaii. For too long, the tools surfers rely on have been built around the coasts that get the most attention, leaving the Atlantic shore, the Gulf of Mexico, and hundreds of lesser-known breaks to make do with wide-net forecasts that were never designed for them. We set out to change that by building something genuinely better for the regions that have been underserved — and making it free.

Accuracy is not an accident. Where most surf apps rely on a single global wave model and hope for the best, Watersman layers three independent data sources on top of each other. We start with a multi-model ensemble — blending GFS-Wave, ECMWF, and ERA5 ocean forecasts so that no single model's blind spot becomes your bad session. We then apply real-time corrections from NOAA's National Data Buoy Center, a network of offshore stations that update every thirty minutes and tell us exactly where the model is wrong before you paddle out. Finally, we pair that structured data with AI-powered plain-English summaries, so the output isn't a wall of numbers — it's a two-sentence answer to the only question that actually matters: is it worth going?

Our mission, in its simplest form, is this: a more accurate report using AI for every region in America, delivered in a form that any surfer can read in seconds. We are not building for the expert who can decode a 16-day spectral chart — we are building for everyone, from the beginner checking their first swell to the weekend regular who just wants to know if tomorrow morning is worth the early alarm. Surf culture has always been about access to the ocean. We believe access to information about the ocean should be no different.

🎯

Accuracy First

We combine real-time buoy data with multi-model forecasts so our reports reflect what the ocean is actually doing.

🌍

Every Coast

Atlantic, Gulf, Pacific. We build for the coasts that big apps overlook, with hyperlocal coverage as our priority.

Always Free

Surf information should be accessible. No paywalls, no check limits, no subscriptions required to see a wave height.
